MIT Students Make STEM Come Alive for Boston Middle Schoolers in Free, Virtual Camp Just Before School Reopens
More than 65 Boston Public School middle schoolers returned to classrooms this week with a reignited passion for STEM, having just finished a summer camp run by Massachusetts Institute of Technology undergraduates. From Aug. 16 through 27, two groups of rising sixth- through ninth-graders embarked on a weeklong intensive STEM camp dubbed DynaMIT, a play on the school’s name. Rosanna Garcia, PhD, Is Named Beswick Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at The Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute | News
Rosanna Garcia, an expert on business innovation and marketing, has joined the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) faculty as the Paul R. Beswick Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in The Business School. She began her new role July 1. Garcia, who has a PhD in marketing from the Eli Broad Graduate School of Business at Michigan State University, was most recently the Walter Koch Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship at the University of Denver; she previously held associate professor positions at North Carolina State University and Northeastern University. When he was 2, Eli Stachofsky and his parents were told he was profoundly deaf. “Ironically, my mom started comforting the nurse because the nurse started to break down and was feeling a great deal of compassion for my parents,” Stachofsky said. “My mom just felt a great sense of calmness and was really able to comfort the nurse and be like, ‘we’re going to be able to work our way through this.’ ” The 19-year-old graduated from the Spokane Valley Tech STEM Academy this summer.
